I found this theme supportive of both the first and second great lessons. Fossils, geology, geomorphology….oh yeah!

It’s hard to say, but I think this is one of my personal favourite themes so far. I learned at least as much as my child did! The pyramid geometry activity was the biggest and most unexpected hit for us, and is something we’re still coming back to months later!

This unit has so many great activities we couldn’t get through them all before it snowed here in New Hampshire. Each of my children participated in different activities, my 6.5 year old loved using a scale, while my almost 3yo laid stones out according to size and them arranged them into a beautiful circle. What I love the most about the themes is they always inspire extensions and I just let the kids run with it!

Review from a real 3yo: “I loved “Rock” month! I loved collecting beautiful and intriguing stones.” the books suggested were very popular in our house.

We really got into this one, since my 8 and 5 year olds have had a stone collection going for years now! We had fun making our own sedimentary rock to add to our collection too. Learning about rocks and rock formations was made easy, and diving deeper was even easier with the suggestions for each age range after each activity. The suggested reading book list was one of our favorites so far. Highly recommend this theme, as there are so many ways to expand upon it and be inspired!

I love this theme and I love how the stacking rocks is similar to the pink tower activity. I really appreciate how connections are made to traditional Montessori activities.
